Standard Extension, measuring between 18 sq m and 20 sq m, are in the chateau’s modern wing near the Wellness Centre and the hotel swimming pool.

A HÔTEL / AN ARTISTE

Jean LE GAC is the “painter in residence” at Montvillargenne Chateau and his art is on permanent display here. This is composed of a series of works where painting, drawing, photography and text are artfully interwoven.
The world of the artist brims full of poetry, humour and adventure, themes which are particularly well suited to the architecture of this site, a fine example of the end of the XIXth century when lyricism and quotation were held in such high esteem.

Jean LE GAC has created for us a universe, somewhere between painting and literature, composed of a series of dramas where he is the main protagonist: employing the techniques of drawing, painting, water colours, pastels or photography and constantly tempered by his writing, he portrays himself as the romantic hero of popular adventure stories in which he blends references to the History of Art with personal memories.

Jean Le Gac was born in Tamaris near Alès in 1936. He lives and works in Paris. Despite being a staunch supporter of smaller and less well known galleries, his works have nonetheless been displayed in many major galleries and art centres in France and abroad.

In 1998, at his one-man exhibition at the main offices of Vacances Bleues in Marseilles, the company decided to commission him to create a work of art on the theme “Farewell to Marseilles”, as a painting with text on uniform white.

This work led to a series of conferences at the Plastic Arts Faculty of Aix-en-Provence, directed by Monsieur Jean Arrouye, which were later published by Editions Muntaner in its Iconotexte Collection.

From the year 2000 onwards, Vacances Bleues requested Jean Le Gac to permanently exhibit in the Montvillargenne Chateau, the historic residence of the Rothschild family in the heart of the Chantilly Forest, with a view to transforming the chateau into a “painter’s residence”. A series of original works and silkscreen prints have now been put on display throughout the hotel, from the restaurant to the meeting rooms and even in some of the bedrooms, with a charcoal inscription in the entrance hall to set the tone…
